Science Cafe: Parasites Everywhere

Details
Parasites are a major cause of human disease and livestock loss in both developed and developing countries. The current treatment emphasis is on drugs, however, drug resistance is a known problem in animals and a major concern for human treatment. We desperately need new ways of thinking about treatment and control.
Parasites’ lifestyles are interwoven with those of humans, our companion animals and domestic livestock: parasites contaminate our water and food, significantly reduce livestock productivity (meat, milk, eggs, fish), and play a key role in the function and stability of natural ecosystems, and thus the conservation and sustainability of wildlife populations.
While the "official" start time is 6:00 pm, getting a table together will require some people to be there early 5:30 ish, depending how popular the topic is.
