Kyle Brittain Presents: Extreme Weather of Western Canada
Details
This talk is presented both in-person and online.
Synopsis:
During his career as a videojournalist with The Weather Network, Kyle Brittain documented no shortage of severe and high-impact weather. His travels took him from British Columbia to Manitoba, covering weather of all seasons – including severe thunderstorms, tornadoes, high winds, blizzards, temperature extremes, and wildfires – and documenting the damage that often came afterwards. He drew from his experience as a former wildland firefighter, alpinist, storm chaser, and weather forecaster to get in as close as safely possible in order to document the fury of Mother Nature. He will share some of the most intense moments captured in video and photos, discussing the forecasting, planning, and execution in successfully documenting them.
Bio:
A lifelong Calgary resident, Kyle Brittain is a freelance videojournalist and weather expert who spent over four years as a professional storm chaser and reporter for The Weather Network. Having a background as a former wildland firefighter, weather forecaster, and mountaineer, he is passionate both about science communication and in getting up close and personal with all of the beautiful and powerful displays of nature that occur in western Canada.
