What we’re about
The Carriage House Studio is a photography meetup/cooperative group offering workshops, studio locations and gallery exhibition space in the Mid-Atlantic region. The cooperative was originally established in 2008 in an historic landmark, an 1860's carriage house in the Logan Circle Arts District in Washington D.C. The Carriage House Studio has since expanded to offer activities in a number of venues in the DC metro area, as well as New York City and Miami, Florida.
Workshops:
We conduct a series of photography workshops to provide instruction on studio lighting, portrait, fashion, fine art and street photography photography, as well as digital printing. We also have a registry of models and makeup artists to facilitate putting creative talent together for member's projects.
We offer our studio photography workshops at Cattail Studio, located 50 minutes from DC or Baltimore, at a waterfront property on the Chesapeake Bay. In addition to a fully equipped studio, there is access to multiple areas for outdoor shoots.
We also offer creative "on-location" workshops using other venues in the area, including the as well as our popular hotel workshop series.

Studio Rental:
We offer studio rentals at several locations, all within a 1 hour driving distance from Washington D.C. and Baltimore. The studio locations include the Cattail Studio (indoor studio / outdoors Chesapeake Bay wetlands, woods and waterfront). We thereby provide a variety of different options for your creative work!

Equipment Rental:
We offer professional lighting equipment for these studio locations, including:
- 5x 500W Hensel monolights w. Pocket Wizards
- softboxes, strip box, snoot, beauty dish and umbrellas
- Manfrotto seamless paper background (stock white and grey paper)
- plasma 60" tv screen for tethered shooting
- a variety of props and accessories
Use of the studio lighting equipment and Pocket Wizards is $10 per hour
Photography Gallery:
We hold photography exhibits featuring both photographers who are part of the Carriage House Studio, as well as other talented photographers. Recent exhibits have included fashion, figurative and urban/street photography and we have a on-going program of future exhibits.
Models:
Each year we identify talented local models and of course, receive visits from traveling models from both the US and overseas. Our "Model in Residence" series continues to make these models available to you!
We will also offer a monthly portfolio development package with the studio location and model as a great way to build your portfolio!

Social Media and Terms of Use:
We are continuously working to offer our community of photographers new and more powerful ways to promote, share and develop their photography skills. However, many social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Meetup, etc... ) have established restrictions about artistic expression in their Terms of Use, that may affect members of our community.
To protect and sustain our artistic community we therefore maintain a mailing list of photographers, models, creatives and others interested in photography, who we can reach out to using artistic content that is not subject to the "Terms of Use" of third party providers.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: As of May 11, 2016 this meetup group will conform to new policies announced by Meetup.com HQ pertaining to photography.
These policies state that:
"Adult Photography
Adult photography groups that are primarily positioned for the creation, development, or sharing of pornographic or racy photographs are prohibited. This includes groups offering racy modeling opportunities, and those intending to create and distribute nude, racy, boudoir, or glamour photographic content.
Guiding principles
Meetup was not a platform created for the creation, development or distribution of racy or pornographic content. While we respect a wide diversity of human interests and content, there are other platforms that are more clearly intended for, and better at supporting those goals.
We also want to make it clear that Meetup is a place for safe and consensual community building. We identified that several of the communities being built around this interest and this content do not align with our platform and our community goals.
Groups with adult photography events scheduled
Groups not primarily intended for adult photography, but instead focused on a skill-set or photographing other diverse, and non-graphic subject matter are allowed on Meetup. However, groups that currently have upcoming events related to glamour, nude, racy, pin-up, and boudoir photography are required to remove them and refrain from hosting these events going forward in order to continue using Meetup.
