Location: Our usual rendezvous at the Starbucks in the Homestead Road Shopping Center. The one near the Safeway complex; next to Yayoi and Chipotle. GPS: 20676 W Homestead Rd, Cupertino, CA 95014

Time: We start coming in from 3.30p onwards, and usually stay till Starbucks closes. Players can be found both inside and outside the cafe.

Q: I didn’t see anyone when I arrived—was the meetup canceled?
Nope! This group has met every Saturday for 10+ years. People come and go throughout the day. Some sit inside, others outside. If you don’t see players right away, give it a moment or look around—we’re there.

Q: Who’s organizing this?
This group was started over a decade ago and is now self-organized by the community. While I (Sudarshana) am currently based outside the Bay Area, I continue to steward this group from afar—and hope to return next year. The meetup keeps going because you show up. ❤️

Q: I heard something about a different group / time / location?
New chess groups are always forming—and that’s a good thing for the community. But this group is the original, and we still meet at the same Starbucks, same time, every Saturday. Just be mindful of any misinformation—this Meetup is active and ongoing. In fact, many players don’t even know it’s a Meetup—they just know: Saturdays = Chess. That’s the tradition we’ve built together.

Q: Do I need to bring a board?
Not at all. Just bring yourself. Boards show up like magic. Everyone plays with everyone.

Q: What’s the vibe?
Chill, kind, and welcoming. All ages and skill levels are encouraged. Win or lose, we’re here to enjoy the game and the company.
