New York Times was an early pioneer of dedicated data journalism practice that incorporated data science/statistics and groundbreaking visualization that was printed and available online. Today, The Times remains a leader and highly emulated across the industry as it adapts to post-print journalism that is known for the use of interactive graphics, sophisticated visualizations of election results, and even incorporating more statistical modeling and predictions ranging from elections to field goals.
Amanda Cox is currently the editor of The Upshot (https://www.nytimes.com/section/upshot) and was integral to New York Times's early adoption.
