Open Discussion: Methods of Philozophizing

Details
This meeting will be a live discussion of the title topic. This sort of discussion can't be settled in any particular way, but remains relevant for beginners and initiates to philosophy.
Here are some questions and comments that may help guide the conversation (feel free to bring questions of your own, as well):
A method provides an approach to achieving a goal, so by understanding the method of a philosophy, we should also understand its underlying aim. However, is there some way to understand a single goal of philosophy? If we can't understand one, then is there really anything unifying philosophy as a field except for the name?
What is the method, or methods, we observe in the history of philosophy? What methods do we use to evaluate this, or to philosophize ourselves?
Have the methods of the philosophers gotten confused over time, or perhaps some of them are inherently confused?
"Do we in our time have an answer to the question of what we really mean by the word 'being'? Not at all. So it is fitting that we should raise anew the question of the meaning of Being. But are we nowadays even perplexed at our inability to understand the expression 'Being'? Not at all. So first of all we must reawaken an understanding for the meaning of this question. Our aim in the following treatise is to work out the question of the meaning of Being and to do so concretely. Our provisional aim is the Interpretation of time as the possible horizon for any understanding whatsoever of Being." - Being and Time
