About us
Welcome to The Classical & Romantic Society.
We're a Madrid-based, English-speaking social club for people who feel a genuine pull toward the culture and spirit of the Anglo-American world from roughly 1775 to 1959, from the elegance of the Regency era to the energy of rock and roll, and everything in between.
Think Jane Austen's drawing rooms. Victorian ambition. Jazz Age glamour. The warmth of a 1940s big band. Doo-wop under streetlights. Sock hops and soda fountains. If any of that makes your heart beat a little faster, you're in the right place.
But this isn't really about the past. It's about what those eras got right. Optimism. Sincerity. Treating people with genuine courtesy. Believing that life is worth taking seriously and celebrating at the same time. We think the world could use more of that, and we'd love to share it with people who feel the same way.
What we actually do:
We meet up and talk. That's the heart of it. We get together, grab a coffee or a bite, and have real conversations about the music, the films, the ideas, and the way of life that draws us to these eras. Sometimes we might visit a museum, watch a classic film, or find a swing night to check out together, but the core is simply good company and good conversation.
No fancy venues. No tickets. No budget required. Just people who care about the same things, meeting in person.
Who this is for:
You don't need to be an expert on any era. You don't need to know every Sinatra song or have read every Austen novel. You just need to be someone who values optimism over cynicism, sincerity over irony, and who's curious about a world that still has something to teach us. Whether you're an expat, a local, or just passing through Madrid, if this resonates, come say hello.
We keep things in English to make the group accessible to Madrid's wonderfully international community.
A note from the founder:
I started this group because I couldn't find it. I've always been drawn to the world these eras represent, not as a costume, but as a way of living with more intention, more warmth, and more care. Madrid is a brilliant city, but it doesn't have a space quite like this. So I decided to make one. I hope you'll join us in building something worth belonging to.
See you soon.
