Japanese novel, The Memory Police by Yoko Ogawa
Details
Please join us for a discussion of Yoko Ogawa's recent novel, The Memory Police, a Kafkaesque fable of an island society whose inhabitants are subject to an unknown force that causes them to lose their memories and attachments to things in the world around them. This collective amnesia is enforced by a secret government agency, The Memory Police. The dreamlike and haunting narration explores themes of helplessness, resistance, and loyalty under the thumb of totalitarian control. Although not old enough to be considered a classic, at less than 10 years since publication, it's literary in style.
