Joseph Campbell's The Hero with a Thousand Faces
Details
Join us for a discussion of Joseph Campbell's massively influential work, The Hero with a Thousand Faces. Why this book? Published in 1949, Campbell's work is an anthropological study of hero myths from around the world. Campbell explores the elements common to these stories to reveal a universal archetypal hero's journey. To quote Campbell in his preface, "As we are told in the Vedas: 'Truth is one, the sages speak of it by many names.'" Why now? George Lucas, Campbell's most famous disciple, opens the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art later this month in Los Angeles.
We'll meet again at the Mission Valley Library in Seminar Room B.
The library sets a limit of 12 persons for the room so please be sure to RSVP. Please change your RSVP to not attending if you can no longer make it.
Feel free to bring your own refreshments
