FAQs About the Group
How often do we meet?
Typically, every 2-3 weeks. This largely depends on the schedule of movies being released and based on members' interest in those movies.
What days does the group usually meet?
Generally speaking, our group meets on Friday nights (after 6pm) or on Saturday afternoons/nights (after 4pm). This varies based on my availability as well as members' availability.
Where do we normally meet?
For the Friday and/or Saturday club outings, we will meet at the AMC Harbison 14 theater. This will be the bulk of our club outings.
If AMC's showtimes does not gel well with our schedules that day, we will use the Regal Columbiana theater as our backup option.
However, I will sometimes create club outings to meet at the local Nickelodeon Theater. These outings are reserved when I see there are foreign, independent, art house or classic movies that I am personally interested to see and figure I'll ask others to join if they'd like. The days we meet at the Nickelodeon varies based on their schedule, typically during the week.
How early should I arrive to the theater for a club outing?
Try to arrive at the theater at least 15-20 minutes before the movie begins.
It's probably easiest for us to meet at our seats as AMC's lobby is relatively small and cramped. There are assigned seats at AMC so it makes it a lot easier if we coordinate and plan ahead of time. This could change over time as we all become familiar with one another.
The same applies to the Nickelodeon club outings, although I do not believe they have assigned seats at their theater.
How much notice does the group receive for club outings?
At least 2 weeks in advance.
What types of movies are selected for club outings?
I try to select as many movies from different genres as possible. This includes dramas, comedies, thrillers, action/adventure, sci-fi, and horror. I create and distribute polls once a quarter (every 3-4 months) to gage interest from the members of upcoming movies they'd like to see. It's a democratic process as it should be.
Will we have dinner before or after the movie?
Usually, I will ask the group if they want to have dinner after the movie (as long as it's not too late). This usually only applies to the AMC club outings as there are more restaurants nearby. I will always ask the group ahead of time on specific club outing pages. There is no obligation to have dinner before or after; you might only be able to see the movie with us and that is okay. Having dinner is just another way for us to get to know each other better and also a time to catch up.
Why should I consider getting an AMC Stubs A-List Membership?
For only $20 a month, you can see up to 4 movies a week. That is an incredible deal, especially considering how expensive tickets can be nowadays. We will meet twice a month (at least) at the local AMC theater and that alone pays for the membership. The best part? You can see things outside the group at no additional cost!
Some of the other benefits of the AMC Stubs A-List Membership include:
-No up-charge to movies in any format (includes PRIME, IMAX, Big-D, and 3D)
-Free online ticket reservations
-Priority lane access
-Free size upgrades on popcorn and fountain drinks
-Birthday rewards
-Earning $5 for every $50 spent
For more information, visit AMC's website.
What if I cannot make it to a club outing?
If you RSVPed Yes to a group outing and do not show up, that is not okay. Why? Because this is an in-person group and we might be looking for you at the theater. As the organizer, I allow up to 3 unexcused absences (meaning, you RSVPed Yes but didn't show up). After the 3rd unexcused absence, you will be removed from the group. While I understand things come up, this is done to ensure we have an active and vibrant group.
The easiest way to avoid all this is to marked yourself as Not Going to an event...if you can no longer attend a movie club outing.
If you cannot attend a group outing and provided no RSVP, then you are fine. This only applies to those who RSVPed.
Why was a movie club outing cancelled?
Usually due to low attendance (3 or less total people, including the organizer). There will be at least 5 days notice if a movie club outing is cancelled.
Where can I find the latest movie club outings?
You can find them on the Upcoming Events page.
Inactive members will be removed after not visiting the movie club MeetUp page for more than 1 year. Inactive members are welcome to rejoin the group, but I want to ensure we have active members in this group.
If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to contact Nick.
