May 2: WHAT IS CONSCIOUSNESS AND DOES AI HAVE IT?

The nature of consciousness has been argued over for thousands of years. Does consciousness arise from matter? Does matter arise from consciousness? Or are matter, energy and consciousness all different forms of some undefined ultimate "substance?"

We meet virtually via Zoom and in-person in Grand Rapids, Michigan, at 1438 S Division, S of Hall Street, at NE corner of Garden and Division, north of the railroad tracks. This is the building that used to be the Conscious Resale Store, same location as when we used to meet, but the store is closed.

Are you curious about the photo above? At left is a piece of pyrite, or fool's gold, from a mine in Spain. The mineral at right is a piece of galena. Both are sulfides. At left, iron sulfide, at right, lead sulfide. Manganese sulfide however, is a barely transparent dark purple or an opaque glassy looking black.

This is founded in the concept that you can’t teach what you don’t know. And even if someone else teaches it, they cannot do it the way that you can to the people that you have access to.
