ONLINE EVENT Debating God
Details
THIS DISCUSSION IS FREE AND ONLINE.
Today we are as aware as ever that belief in God is not one thing. There are many beliefs in God. What is believed about God, even within specific religions can vary considerably. As one priest told me about being vetted to become a priest; 'They didn't mind that I didn't believe in the supernatural, so long as I wasn't an atheist'. But the question of whether or not to believe in God, whatever that may involve, is still extremely important to many and this discussion will attempt to examine some of the important issues within that debate. For example, is Pascal right that 'the heart has reasons of which reason knows not?' Or do such lines of thinking take us in the direction of madness? If, on the contrary, reason can offer us clarity can such clarity reach beyond concepts to the kind of reality some mean by God? I would emphasise that I am not here to persuade you either that there is a God or that there isn't. But I do hope we can move further in our thinking by joining together, listening to each other and thinking critically in a supportive respectful environment.
