Gender & Identity at the End of Life: What Shows Up on the Death Certificate?
This month, we’re taking a closer look at how gender and identity are reflected—or not—on the California death certificate. While many of us live in beautifully self-defined and chosen identities, the legal system doesn’t always keep up. This can be painful to confront, especially when what's required at death may not reflect how we lived.

Together, we’ll gently unpack what data is legally required on the death certificate in California, and explore what can be populated to reflect your chosen identity and gender. This session is led by queer-affirming death care professionals who’ve walked alongside many families through this process—and who are committed to helping you understand your rights, your options, and where change is still needed.

This workshop is led by LGBTQIA+ community members and queer-affirming death care professionals who are committed to creating a supportive and inclusive space. Each month, we’ll explore a new end-of-life topic relevant to the LGBTQIA+ community. Join us regularly, and over time, you’ll create a comprehensive guide for your loved ones—ensuring your wishes, identity, and values are honored when the time comes.
