Discussion Night: Early versus Late Diagnosis

Details

oin us again for a discussion night. Today we will discuss the life experiences of those who were diagnosed as autistic in childhood on the one hand, and those who were either diagnosed or self-identified as adults on the other. Generally speaking, how did the time in life when you learned you are autistic impact your development? We might consider the following questions as an in-road to the topic:

-Do late-diagnosed people acquire a different skillset as a result of living for a long time without knowing they are autistic?

-Are early-diagnosed people less likely to have negative beliefs about themselves because they knew why and how they were different, or more likely because others assumed they would be incapable of things?

-How did your time of diagnosis impact your social development? What about your emotional development and your intellectual development?

From 7:00-7:30, we will settle in and get acquainted. Then at 7:30 we will begin discussing the night's chosen topic.

This event is at the First Congregational Church of Ann Arbor. (The Delian Club is not, however, a religious organization.) Please come in through the doors on Williams Street, the ones which directly face the opposing side of the street. Go up the ramp and past it for a few yards, and then turn to the right. We will be in the Mayflower Room, which is right next to the small kitchen.

As with all of the Delian Club's events, this is for autistic adults only.

Go to the door on William Street, the one half way down the church that faces the church directly. It has to the right of it a very small flashing green and red light.
