Discussion Night: Autistic Burnout II
Details
Our last discussion on autistic burnout was well-attended, and some of you requested a followup.
Last time, we discussed our experiences of autistic burnout. We distinguished it from primary depression. We also discussed how it can interact with primary depression, complicated recovery because the treatments for burnout and primary depression seem to point in the opposite directions. We also distinguished it in some measure from occupational burnout.
Tonight let's aim to hash out the temporal dimensions of autistic burnout, such as the following: How long does it last? Does it appear on some sort of a cycle? When you've experienced it, what was happening in your life immediately before? What was happening when it remitted? Did it happen more often when you are younger, or does it happen more often now?
We will use these considerations as a general theme for discussion; it is no problem if we stray into other topics, wherever our train of thought takes us.
This event is at the First Congregational Church of Ann Arbor. (The Delian Club is not, however, a religious organization.) Please come in through the doors on William Street, the ones which directly face the opposing side of the street. They are halfway down the church, and they have to the right of them a small light that flashes red and green. Go up the ramp and turn to the right; we are in the Mayflower Room, which is next to the kitchenette.
As with all Delian Club events, this is for autistic adults only.
