This is a beautiful varied walk not to miss, going through scenic limestone dales, pastures, woodland and along winding river paths, an easygoing route.
Our walk starts in Tideswell Village, it has a rich history dating back to Pre-Roman Times. St John the Baptist church is situated in the centre of the village, built in the 14th Century, it contains impressive wood carvings and monuments.
Tideswell is noted for its textile industry with the nearby mills of Litton and Cresswell which once produced cotton.
Leaving Tideswell Village, the route goes across tracks to join the Limestone Way and takes us into the scenic Hay Dale.
Hay Dale is part of the Derbyshire Dales National Nature Reserve and a designated site of Special Scientific Interest, rich with flowers and wildlife.
Coming out of scenic Hay Dale, our route enters Peter Dale, a crag sided valley with pastures on either side and beautiful views around us.
Our route emerges from Peter Dale and rejoins the Limestone Way which takes us to Miller's Dale, the end of the Monsal Trail with riverside views and a cafe with lovely ice-cream..
The Village of Miller's Dale is a small settlement in an exceptionally beautiful section of the River Wye, where it winds through stunning limestone dales.
This tiny village in this wonderful location was once a junction on the Midland Railway between London and Manchester and an important centre for limestone quarrying.
The railway closed and the former track was restored as a pedestrian and cycling trail, the Monsal Trail, which runs for 8.5 miles from Chee Dale to Bakewell.
Leaving Miller's Dale, we head along the Monsal Trail to join the path down to a babbling brook at Ravenstor and into beautiful the Tideswell Dale.
The foot of the valley of Tideswell Dale, leads into Miller's Dale and the brook runs into the River Wye.
It's an impressive limestone Gorge and nature reserve, home to an abundance of wildlife being a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
The peaceful walk through Tideswell Dale leads us back to Tideswell Village where we started this beautiful scenic walk through the Dales.
