In this session we will be looking at information - what exactly is it and by what rules does it behave? We will be looking at the work of the most important person most people have never heard of - Claude Shannon. And then we'll be looking at more recent findings from the world of Information Theory.
I'm really enjoying The Science of Information: From Language to Black Holes, a Great Courses Course. (I listen to the audiobook versions of these courses but I recently discovered The Great Courses now seem to be included in Amazon Prime, so you get the video.)
The Information: A History, a Theory, a Flood By James Gleick covers the birth of Information theory and Shannon. I've not read it yet, but enjoyed other books by the same author.

A Mind at Play: How Claude Shannon Invented the Information Age by Jimmy Soni, Rob Goodman looks good.

The Bit Player is a recent film about Shannon. It's on Amazon Prime. Not seen it yet.
