What we’re about
We play collective, highly-skilled soccer in the District.
Our goal is to create that incredible feeling of being part of something bigger than yourself—a true collective of skilled players that moves the ball quickly to probe attacking possibilities and gets joy out of slick passing moves that above all, retain possession. We love what Arsene Wenger calls the “generosity of passing."
Our collective mindset extends to play outside possession as well: an organized defense plays as one collective mind, where players work hard for each other and help adjust each other to create truly enjoyable defensive unit that is rewarding on its own.
Our meetups are consistent and well-organized.
The meetups are organized by Bishop, a former semi-pro player, club founder, and coach. We provide clean scrimmage vests, goals, cones, match balls, and occasional field permits. Games are capped at 18. Teams are choosen by skill and position. There are no goalkeepers.
We play additional games or add restrictions to the typical scrimmage during a 1.5–2 hour session to freshen up play and sharpen our skills as needed.
If you have two unexcused absences, you will be banned from the group. An unexcused absence occurs when you have RSVP'd yes to a spot and do not show without communicating the absence to Bishop.
District Collective Player Requirements:
You must be a former ***NCAA D3 college player ***or equivalent skill level. We accept nearly all players on a trial basis to see if their skill and collective mindset contribute to the group. Sometimes players aren’t great fits for the group—it’s nothing personal and this protects the integrity of the game. Players can apply for another trial if they feel they’ve changed their skill/mindset. The most important criteria we use to see if a player belongs is to ask: Do they make their teammates better?
This is a co-ed group (although there tend to be much more male players).
We encourage a safe and supportive community, where we push each other to be better. Slide tackles are not allowed. Corner kicks are taken on the ground to avoid unnecessary head collisions. Overly aggressive and dangerous play is not tolerated. Offenders will be cautioned and, if necessary, banned.
Selfish players are not welcome and there are several ways you can be selfish on the pitch: If you hear: “pass the ball!” or "TRACK your man!" or "come back on defense!" from your teammates, consider this a warning that you may be asked to leave the group.
