Fort Luton was built between 1876 and 1892 South of Chatham. It is one of the five late Victorian land front forts built to defend the overland approaches to Chatham. It is the smallest of the Chatham forts and was built near to the village of Luton. It is a Victorian fort that was involved in the 1907 Chatham siege trials and saw vital roles in both WW1 as an anti-aircraft battery and an enbarkment centre for troops their way to France, and in WW2 the fort was converted to a Secret Gun Operation Centre for the control of anti aircraft guns in the area. The main entrance for Fort Luton is found within the Victory Academy school where you can park or disabled parking is directly opposite the forts main entrance by the drawbridge. £3 entry fee
