The Edinburgh Photography Meetup Group

Following Pete's film title task in February I thought it would be fun to take a literary turn. Not too literary though, more whodunnit. Edinburgh's most famous detective, John Rebus, created by Ian Rankin is the subject of some 25 books and some of these form the basis of today's task.
From the six titles I've chosen below select three or four and create a photograph that would be suitable for a book cover for that title OR you could take a different approach and produce a diptych/triptych that conveys the essence of the title.
The titles are:
Knots and Crosses
Tooth and Nail
Black and Blue
Death is not the End
Fleshmarket Close
Exit Music

We'll meet outside the National Library of Scotland on George IV Bridge and reconvene somewhere tbc on the day 90 mins to 2 hours later.

It will be the last Thursday of the month which means we meet at Leith Community Centre in the Trinity Room.

We are going to try to do a little skill sharing for the next few LCC sessions. To get us started, I have volunteered to talk about my recent experience photographing two weddings for a friend -hers and her son's.

Come along and hear about how I prepared for each wedding; how it went on the big day; what went well (and not so well), and how I muddled through my first blurb wedding album.

Amisfield Walled Garden
this 8 acre walled garden is the largest volunteer led garden in the UK. Its beautiful design with different vegetation zones invites for a photographical exploration. amisfield.org.uk
I suggest to look at colour contrasts. Like different flowers, butterflies or geometric pattern. But maybe the many volunteers and their work could be a topic too.
We meet at 1pm at the entrance gate and have until 2:30 to roam. Then we go into Haddington for a drink and snack. (pub still to be determined; if you have a suggestion please let me know).
The garden is run by volunteers and as such depends on donations. Something like £3 -5 would be great, if you are happy to donate.
The best way to arrive is by car, but you can also take the bus X7 into Haddington (the 11:39 from Waterloo Place arrives at 12:24 at Market Street, Haddington), where I can pick you up, if we arrange it a week beforehand.

This is a new format of meet-up for the EPMG, a meet and greet for quick and early Friday night drinks. The April event at the Cask and Barrel was a great success, so we will do it again and go to a different bar.

For May, let's try Juniper Edinburgh, a cocktail bar at 20 Princes Street.

At EPMG, we always try to schedule an event every Thursday afternoon. We pick a location of interest and sometimes add a theme or a particular photography skill. We meet at the starting point at 13:00, walk around for an hour or so taking photos. We might stay together although some prefer to work solo during that time. We meet in a pub or cafe afterwords for a chance to socialise.

We realise that the Thursday afternoon slot is not feasible for all, especially those who work. We have seen our Saturday group grow and that has been great.

We thought we would try a new format, which is a quick meet and greet for drinks on a Friday. That might catch the 'leaving work' members who could pop by to introduce themselves, maybe have a quick drink before heading off for whatever weekend plans are in store.

I'm not planning to bring my big camera, just my phone for a few selfies. No wandering around for an hour taking photos, no guest speakers, no workshop, no themes or discussion topics. Just a quick Friday night drink.

For this Meet and Greet I've chosen Juniper Edinburgh, a cocktail bar on the first floor at 20 Princes Street, in Hotel Indigo. The evenings are lighter now and there will be panoramic views of the city.

It's at the Balmoral Hotel end of Princes Street.
