Vintage (starting at Quartermile)

This week’s theme is ‘Vintage’, set in and around the Quartermile area.

We’ll start and finish at Söderberg, 1 Lister Square, EH3 9GL, right in the heart of the Quartermile complex. It’s a convenient meeting point with easy access to locations like the Grassmarket, The Meadows, Morningside, and the National Museum—all great spots to explore for this theme.

The idea of vintage will mean something different to each of us. To help spark some inspiration, here are a few ideas we might wish to explore:
• Contrast the old Royal Infirmary buildings with surrounding modern architecture
• Capture close-ups of stonework, signage, gates, or antique windows
• Look for cobbled streets, wrought-iron railings, and vintage-style lampposts
• Take candid portraits of people in retro clothing
• Seek out pubs, cafés, or shopfronts with classic or historic charm
• Use reflections in old windows for atmosphere and depth
• Spot retro bikes, classic cars, or red buses framed by historic backdrops
• Focus on textures like peeling paint, rust, old newspapers, or weathered stone
• Add grain, vignettes, or motion blur to give your photos a nostalgic edge
• Experiment with black & white, sepia, or faded colour edits—perfect for trying out those unused Lightroom presets.
