A visit to another place which probably none of you will have visited in the past. St Catherine’s Convent, 4 Lauriston Gardens EH3 9HH – no I’m not religious! The convent is run by the Sisters of Mercy who carry out a lot of work with persons who are homeless, disadvantaged or have an addiction. The work they do is really important and will have saved many lives over the years
The convent was built in 1860 with final completion in 1892.
The main area of photographic interest is the chapel but we can visit the Conference Room and the garden.
Meet at the front door inside the gate.
Sister Aelred has kindly offered us tea and biscuits when we visit. In order to provide her with numbers attending could you please let me know by Wednesday morning at the latest.
The visit to the Convent will probably take an hour after which we visit the Church of the Sacred Heart, 26 Lauriston Street, where there is a collection of naive Christian paintings in a very simple setting. If the light is good this is a spectacular space to photograph.
There is no theme for today, but are you an icon or an iconoclast? Your photos will let us know!
Meet up at the Cold Town House in the Grassmarket around 3.00pm
