Windows to the soul
Details
As Shelley wrote:
“How eloquent are eyes!
Not the rapt poet's frenzied lay
When the soul's wildest feelings stray
Can speak so well as they.
How eloquent are eyes!
Not music’s most impassioned note
On which Love’s warmest fervours float
Like them bids rapture rise.”
Sometimes referred to the windows of the soul, today’s challenge is to photograph eyes. They can be animate or inanimate but at least one must be a photograph of the eyes of a stranger. I know this sounds scary but if this group does anything at all, it challenges us to move out of our photographic comfort zone. My approach would be to go up to someone and say “Hi, I’m with a photography group and our challenge today is to photograph someone we don’t know. I really like your … hat, hair or whatever .. it would be great if I could take a photo of you”
If they ask any questions, tell them the truth about what you will do with the photo and if they ask for a copy get their email address and send it to them.
There are lots of objects and stuffed animals with eyes so that should be relatively easy.
As the weather is unpredictable at this time of the year and there are a limited number of public buildings in which we are allowed to photograph, we’ll meet at the National Museum of Scotland, inside the entrance where the gift shop is. At around 2.30pm we can meet at The Advocate in Hunter Square.
Eye’ll see you there
