Escape for a few hours and join me for a relaxed festive-themed photography walk through central Edinburgh, focusing on festive lights, urban scenes, architecture, and street photography.

We’ll explore St. Andrew’s Square, Multrees Walk, outside St James’s Quarter/Top of Leith Walk, with optional walk up Calton Hill for 15.30ish sunset.
(Calton Hill Street, beside British Heart Foundation on Leith Street, is great to walk up and capture architecture and lights from the various hotels on Leith Street)

We’ll challenge ourselves to shoot using the 20/60/20 rule working with a mix of styles:

  • Festive lights
  • Architecture & city details
  • Street & candid photography
  • Abstract details, reflections & light trails

20% Safe Shots - Classic compositions you know will work: postcard views, landmarks, well-lit scenes.
60% Development Shots - Experimenting with angles, framing, reflections, motion blur, exposure, and light.
20% Creative Risks - Abstracts, intentional camera movement, unusual perspectives, slow shutter, or breaking the rules.

Drinks & Nibbles:
We’ll finish with drinks at Motel One on 10 Princes Street/West Register Street to warm up and chat about our favourite images.

What to Bring:
Camera or phone, Comfortable walking shoes. Warm weather-appropriate clothing. Spare battery / memory card. Optional: tripod, fast lens, ND filters
(Certain areas don’t like tripods e.g. at the back of St. James’s Quarter)

All skill levels welcome, and any camera – DSLR, Mirrorless, Film, Phone etc.
