FCCT BOOK CLUB – Author talk - Welcome Me to the Kingdom By Mai Nardone
Details
Mai Nardone is a Thai-American writer whose short stories have appeared in American Short Fiction, Granta, McSweeney’s, Ploughshares, and elsewhere. He lives in Bangkok.
Critics are raving about his literary fiction debut book Welcome Me to the Kingdom, which is published by Random House US and Atlantic Books UK.
“This dark collection is an honest, crystalline depiction of what urbanization has done to complicate and erode human life. Bangkok is the true star here, a modern city at the center of a tale as old as civilization itself. Every brightly lit kingdom has an underbelly” – THE NEW YORK TIMES
“The closer Nardone takes the reader to the tortured souls that make the city their home, the more universal his themes become. Most Thais, he suggests, dream of love and a better life and are prevented from achieving this by misfortune, institutionalized greed and exploitation.” – NIKKEI ASIA
Mai Nardone will be in conversation with FCCT President and Agence France-Presse Southeast Asia correspondent Lisa Martin on June 8, 7 pm at the clubhouse.
