Tapping into the University of Glasgow's Funding for R&D

The Gaitherin is a regular meet-up of Glasgow's entrepreneurs and academic researchers; a forum where business challenges can be shared, where new research outputs can be showcased, and where new ideas for collaboration can be forged. Glasgow's research covers quantum technologies, alternative energy, biotechnology, stratified medicine, data science and a whole host of other areas; there is no single technical focus at the Gaitherin - the most interesting ideas emerge from hearing about something new.

November 23rd’s Gaitherin will get everyone in the mood for the 20th State of the City Economy Conference taking place the next day, where Council Leader Susan Aitken will set out the Council’s vision for the future development of the city’s economy.

The University of Glasgow sustains £1.5bn of output, £800m in GVA and nearly 15,000 jobs across Scotland, and this month’s Gaitherin will focus on the huge variety of funding opportunities that exist to support businesses to tap into our assets – our student talent, our research power and our specialist equipment and infrastructure.

David McArthur from the University’s Urban Big Data Centre (http://ubdc.ac.uk/) will join us to talk about his collaboration with Travelai Ltd on the Catch! (https://www.gla.ac.uk/connect/businessandinnovation/collaboration/catch/) project, which with financial support from InnovateUK is using travel mode detection technology together with big data science to bring about change that makes journeys better.

The University team will also be on hand to talk about the huge variety of funding mechanisms that exist for businesses to tap into, from the Interface Innovation Vouchers and Knowledge Transfer Partnerships that many will be familiar with, to the very substantial UOfG specific resources that can only be accessed through working with us.
