Film Club is an evening for people who love getting immersed in movies and then discussing what they experienced.
Most of the films we watch have a link to the representation of masculinity. Our shared goal is to let the power of visual storytelling inspire a healthy masculine energy and to confront the shadow sides of our experiences as men.
One night at a time in a safe space, together.

Film Club: Demolition | Screening & Discussion

I'm Misi, a film enthusiast and dedicated member of The Gathering of Men community. I'm excited to invite you for an event merging my passions: Movies & chatting about masculinity!
After watching Demolition together, we will discuss the movie through topics ranging from cinematography to its deeper psychological themes.
What to expect?
- Director insight: Before the screening, I will introduce the director (Jean-Marc Vallée) and share a few aspects of his life and artistic influences that could have shaped Demolition.
- Quick sharing round: After a brief open discussion, each of you will get about 2 minutes to share your ratings (1–5), in these areas:
🎥 Cinematography & Soundtrack (visuals, music, and atmosphere)
📖 Content (theme, storyline, and characters)
🎭 Acting (performances and how they convey emotional depth)
3. Group discussion: We’ll dive into the film’s exploration of masculinity, such as male archetypes portrayed (King, Warrior, Magician, Lover), & how grief, numbness, and dismantling and rebuilding reshape male identity.
4. Personal takeaways: We will close the night with everyone sharing what they take away for their own lives from the movie or the discussion!

P.S. Bring your own dinner to enjoy during the movie. Feel free to arrive a bit earlier, as doors open at 5:00 PM, so we can start promptly at 5:30 PM!
