“You Can Make This Place Beautiful”

The Genesis Gallery is excited to host the opening reception for You Can Make This Place Beautiful, an exhibition by artist, calligrapher, and storyteller David Chang, on Thursday, October 1, 2026, from 6:00–8:00 p.m.
Located at 150 East 91st Street, Nova Omnia is a hub where leaders, dreamers, and doers gather to advance gospel renewal in New York City. Through Genesis Gallery, we are also intentionally shaping our space as a place for visual art, reflection, conversation, and beauty alongside its role as a meeting and coworking environment.

### About the Exhibition:

Fall is a season of letting go, when flora and fauna return to the earth to prepare for slumber. Yet in this seeming dormancy, life is restored and sustained, eventually emerging through renewal and rebirth. Slumber, in many ways, is an act of grace.
In You Can Make This Place Beautiful, David Chang explores themes of rest, renewal, and shared hope through an intentionally collaborative and deeply intuitive artistic practice. By listening to the stories of a neighborhood and inviting others to share their aspirations and longings, Chang uncovers the common threads that unite us. Through expressive calligraphic forms and layered abstraction, he gathers seemingly disparate and fragmented pieces of life into a visual expression of wholeness, beauty, and redemption.

### About the Artist:

David Chang is a renowned artist who has practiced Western calligraphy for more than twenty years. His work is driven by a passion for “bringing the essence of a word or message to life,” moving between traditional scripts and contemporary abstraction. His distinctive calligraphic mark expresses personal, cultural, and spiritual awareness while retaining a formal beauty marked by urgency, hope, and redemption. Chang’s work has been exhibited at Onishi Gallery, Clemente Soto Vélez Center, Waterfall Mansion, Pratt Institute, Calvary Saint George’s, and the Society of Scribes at the National Arts Club. His calligraphy was also prominently featured in the internationally acclaimed film mother! (2017).
