[**New Year's Eve**] Bear Mountain / Appalachian & 1777 Trails (6+ miles)

Your opportunity to pre-pay for your sins on New Year's Eve! Somewhat strenuous 6+ miles, about 1,600 ft total elevation gain. One of the most iconic and popular hikes in the region. We will go up by the Appalachian Trail and return by the 1777 trail. Multiple look-out points en route, and a spectacular summit with panoramic views. Let's meet about 10 minutes ahead for departure at the Bear Mountain Inn Parking lot [Click on map!] off Rte 202 / 9W. Parking fee: $10 per car. Come prepared for windy and icy conditions! If you are new to winter hikes, we highly recommend carrying crampons and poles because icy trail conditions are common even without snow. This hike is not suitable for beginner hikers.
Bring plenty of water and snacks, and appropriate seasonal items (sun- and insect-protection in summer, and crampons in winter). Day-of-hike-only phone: 973-704-7362.
**Note** We hike at a moderate pace, and never leave anyone behind. Our hikes are not suitable for fast hikers who like to forge ahead of the group.
