Here is the theme of our discussion this month:
Our discussion this month is on Afro pessimism and will be led by Torin Alexander, Professor of Religious Studies and Africana Studies at Winston-Salem State University.
Here is a statement on the topic that he provided:
Afro pessimism is a body of critical literature that deals with meaning of the black body in society. In the words of Frank Wilderson, "the Human is not an organic entity but a construct; a construct that requires its Other in order to be legible ... the Human Other is Black." Following our conversation on language and grammar, this relationship is part of the grammar of modern world. To be "human" is to be “not black".
Join us for an open, respectful gathering where secular minds come together to explore ideas, share perspectives, and build community. Whether you're agnostic, atheist, humanist, or just curious, this meetup is a safe space for meaningful discussion on life, ethics, and society—without religion in the mix.
