Welcome to the Hackney Wick Social Club 🌿
I’ve lived in Hackney Wick for the past 18 months, and although I love the area, I’ve realised that living somewhere doesn’t necessarily mean you get to know the people around you!
London is a huge place, and sometimes it can be surprisingly hard to meet new people in your own local community — especially outside of work, existing friendship groups, or the usual London social circles.
So… I thought I’d just make a Meetup group and see what happens!
Full disclosure: I have absolutely no idea how to run a Meetup group 😂 I’m not an events organiser or community expert — I’ve simply made this because I’d like to meet more people who live nearby, and I figured there might be others who feel the same.
The group is mainly aimed at people in their mid-20s to around 40 — basically people who are at a similar stage of life and are looking to make new friends, and meet people locally. No strict age police though — if you feel like you’re part of the crowd, you’ll fit right in!
There’s no fixed agenda or grand plan. I’m very open to suggestions and would love for the group to become whatever people are actually interested in doing.
Coffee? Pub drinks? Walks around the Wick? Dinner? Book club? Board games? Creative stuff? Trying new local spots? Something completely different?
Suggest it! If enough people are interested, we can make it happen.
For now, I’ll stick the first event in as some casual drinks at a local pub about a month from now, just to give us something to work towards. We can meet, have a drink, see who turns up, and figure out where to go from there! 🍻
Whether you’ve just moved to Hackney Wick or nearby, have lived here for years, or are simply looking to meet some new people nearby, come along — you’ll hopefully find a friendly bunch of people in the same boat. ❤️
No pressure, no networking, no need to know anyone beforehand — just a chance to get out, meet some local people and hopefully make a few new friends.
