AI in Agriculture: From data to sustainable yields

Important! This is a free event, but registration is required! To secure your spot, please register via this link.

    When: Thursday, May 28, 2026, 17:30 - 21:00
Where: The Hague University of Applied Sciences

Agriculture is becoming a data-driven system. From greenhouse climate control to satellite-based land monitoring, AI is increasingly embedded in how decisions are made, optimized, and scaled.

This meetup explores how AI is applied in agricultural environments where conditions are dynamic, biological systems introduce uncertainty, and decisions have direct operational impact.

    What’s on the agenda?

    • Autonomous climate control in greenhouses: Saheli D, Senior Data Scientist & Product Owner at Blue Radix will dive into the architecture of CropController, Blue Radix’s system for autonomous climate and irrigation management.
She will discuss how the system optimizes for complex variables in real-time, the technical challenges of building autonomous loops for living crops, and why building the algorithm was only half the battle.
    • Where AI meets biology: forecasting yield in greenhouses: Tobias Platenburg, Director of Engineering at Source.ag, will explore the limits of conventional AI when applied to biological systems. Using Source’s Harvest Forecast product as a case study, he will show why yield prediction is not a straightforward time series problem, and how hybrid approaches—combining machine learning with mechanistic plant models—are used to produce reliable forecasts in real-world greenhouse operations.
    • Satellite data for agricultural decision-making:
Ramadhan, GeoAI & Earth Observation Engineer, Space4Good explores leveraging earth observation satellites, such as Landsat and Sentinel-2 (Optical) and Sentinel-1 (Radar) to track Indonesia’s shifting landscapes. We examine how using satellite imagery and AI enables precise, annual mapping of oil palm expansion versus forest loss, providing critical geospatial insights for sustainable land-use management and policy.

    Is this for you?
The event is aimed at engineers, data scientists, and practitioners interested in how AI systems operate in environments where models interact directly with the physical world. Expect practical case studies such as crop monitoring and yield prediction, smart irrigation, greenhouse climate optimization, and data-driven decision support for farmers. But also anyone who is interested in how cutting-edge AI techniques are applied to growng the food we eat!

AI4ALL Den Haag Meetup along with Pie & AI present - AI, Jobs, and the Future of Work. This event will have a a panel discussion, with perspectives from students, people currently working with AI, and professors and people teaching AI
Artificial intelligence is no longer a distant concept. It is already transforming the way we work, the skills we need, and the opportunities available to us. Automation, generative AI, decision support systems and robotics are making an impact across nearly every industry.
But what does this actually mean for your career?
In this meetup, we’ll move beyond the headlines and explore the real implications of AI for the job market. Rather than focusing on fear or hype, we’ll take a grounded, practical look at how roles are evolving, which new opportunities are emerging, and how you can position yourself to benefit from these changes.
    We’ll discuss questions like:

    • Which jobs are most likely to change and how?
    • What new roles are being created because of AI?
    • What skills are becoming more valuable in an AI-driven world?
    • How can non-technical professionals stay relevant?
    • What does “working with AI” actually look like in practice?

This event is open to students, working professionals, and anyone who is curious or interested in how AI is transforming the job market. This session will give you a clearer picture of where things are heading and where you might fit in.

What happens when you mix AI, human chemistry, and a room full of interesting people?
Join us for an evening that’s part tech talk, part social experiment, and part relaxed social gathering, where AI helps spark connections, but the real magic happens in conversation.

🎯 What this event is about
This is not your typical dating event, and not just an AI demo either.
We’re bringing together a curated group of around 30 participants, between the ages of 25 and 45 (balanced across men and women) for a structured yet informal evening of:

    • meeting new people
    • learning something about AI
    • and exploring how technology can (and can’t) help us connect

    🧠 The AI matchmaking experiment
    Before the event, participants
fill out a short questionnaire about:

    • who they are
    • what they’re looking for in a partner
    • what kind of relationship or dates they’re interested in

An AI system then analyzes these responses and:

    • pairs participants based on compatibility
    • generates a short explanation of why they were matched

These matches are not revealed upfront. That’s part of the fun 😉

    🎤 The program

    1. Mini talks (±30 minutes total)
We kick things off with two short, engaging talks:

    • Intro to LLMs (by Vikram)
A clear and accessible explanation of how modern AI systems understand and generate text.
    • “My AI Boyfriend” (by Fiona)
A humorous and interactive demo exploring relationships with AI. Expect laughs!

    🗣️ 2. Small group conversations
Participants are split into small groups (4–6 people).
Each group is arranged so that:

    • you and your AI match are in the same group
    • but you won’t know who your match is (yet)

You’ll have ~30 minutes to chat, explore, and get to know each other naturally.

    🍷 3. Open social & drinks
    After the structured part:

    • free-flowing conversations
    • drinks
    • mingling with everyone

    🕵️ 4. The big reveal
At the end of the evening:

    • Try to guess who your AI match was
    • Afterwards, you’ll receive:
    • your match
    • the AI’s reasoning
    • optional contact sharing (only if both agree)

Of course, you’re free to connect with anyone you enjoyed talking to, not just your match.

    ⚠️ Important notes

    • This is a curated event - signing up does not guarantee a spot
    • Once you sign up and fill out the form, we will reach out to you a week before the event to let you know if you have a spot
    • The event takes place in an apartment, close to The Hague Central Station.
    • The matchmaking is experimental and just for fun
    • You are always in control of who you connect with
    • Your responses are used only for this event

    👥 Who should join?

    • Curious minds interested in AI
    • People who enjoy meeting others in a structured but relaxed setting
    • Anyone open to a slightly different kind of social experience

    Why join?
    Because:

    • you’ll learn something new
    • you’ll meet interesting people
    • and you might walk away with a great connection

    - or at the very least, a great story.
