Event info:
You might think: Knitting!?!? Isn’t that the boring stuff that grandma’s do?
Well, actually, knitting is highly addictive, super relaxing, and it also helps when practicing Dutch!
-
HOW IT WORKS -
We get our wool from ‘Wool For Warmth‘. It’s a non-profit that people donate wool to. They distribute it to knitters. In return, whatever we knit, we give back to them and they distribute it to the homeless! We try to knit manly hat/scarves as there are many male homeless people and few people who knit for men :). -
TIMETABLE -
We knit from about 14:00 to 16:00 (however, feel free to come later / leave earlier if you want!)
We meet every two weeks on Sunday!
- WHAT TO BRING -
You don’t have to bring any materials! Needles + wool are provided. You can even take your knitting work home. However, if you want to keep your hat/scarf after you are done, then we ask you to bring your own materials :).
There will be coffee/tea & cookies, but feel free to bring extra snacks to share if you want :)
- KNITTING NEWBIES -
Total beginners to knitting are welcome! We can teach you! Anyone can do it!
We especially encourage men to come! Sometimes men think knitting is mostly for women, but we encourage male emancipation here! Don’t care about the stereotypes and just do it :). And did you know, originally knitting was mostly done by men?
-
DUTCH-
While knitting, we will practice speaking Dutch! We try to speak Dutch as much as possible and avoid English. So, it’s not for complete beginners, but if you’re able to have a very basic converastion in Dutch you will be fine! Don’t worry, we won’t care if you make mistakes and we will help you along the way! Still not feeling confident? Just let us know and we will take care of you :) :). -
DUTCH LANGUAGE CAFE -
We knit in the Dutch Language Cafe! This is a location for many fun activities where you can also practice Dutch!
You can read more about it at: www.dutchlanguagecafe.com -
COSTS -
We kindly ask a contribution of 6 euros. This covers cost for using the space & knitting materials and includes free drinks (coffee/tea/lemonade) and cookies.
Please reserve your spot by getting a ticket here: https://dutchlanguagecafe.com/events/knitting/
Dutch Language Cafe community members enter for free (read more about it here www.dutchlanguagecafe.com/community).
You are welcome to join us :) And let us know if you have any questions!
