### Highly Sensitive People: The Everyday Heroes No One Sees
In a world that values toughness and resilience, highly sensitive people (HSPs) are often overlooked. Yet, they are the quiet visionaries, deep thinkers, and compassionate changemakers who bring depth, creativity, and connection into every space they enter.
But the world wasn’t built for them.
And without support, highly sensitive people often find themselves overwhelmed, burned out, and disconnected from their own needs.
***
### The Curious Rebel Layer (a.k.a. Why You Might Be Here)
Many highly sensitive people are also what we call curious rebels.
Not rebels in the loud, rule-breaking sense—but in the quieter, more inconvenient (for society) way:
- You don’t just want to know what to do—you want to know if it actually makes sense
- You notice inconsistencies in systems, relationships, and “the way things are done”
- You ask “why” more than most people are comfortable with
- You’d rather have a deep, slightly unhinged conversation than make small talk about the weather
- You’ve probably been told you’re “too much,” “too intense,” or “too sensitive”
You’re not trying to be difficult.
You just… can’t unsee things.
And that level of awareness?
It’s a gift.
But it’s also exhausting.
Because being a curious rebel often means living in high-definition in a world that prefers things blurry.

### The Challenges HSPs (and Curious Rebels) Face
💠Feeling Overstimulated – Your brain doesn’t have a “mute button,” and it shows
💬 Struggling to Set Boundaries – You feel everything, including things that aren’t yours
💪 Pushing Too Hard or Withdrawing Completely – You oscillate between over-functioning and shutting down
❤️ Feeling Misunderstood – Because most people aren’t tracking what you’re tracking
This isn’t because you’re weak.
It’s because your system is processing more.

### Why This Group Exists
This isn’t just another Meetup.
It’s a space for people who:
- think deeply
- feel deeply
- and are a little tired of pretending they don’t
It’s for those who don’t want surface-level fixes.
It’s for people who want to:
- understand themselves
- recognize their patterns
- build a life that actually feels aligned—not just one that looks good
Here, we don’t see sensitivity as something to “fix.”
We see it as something to:
> understand, work with, and ultimately trust

### Hosted by Phoenix Rising Family Medicine
This community is proudly hosted by Phoenix Rising Family Medicine—an integrative primary care clinic focused on helping people understand the deeper roots of burnout, chronic stress, and whole-person health.
At Phoenix Rising, we don’t just look at symptoms—we explore the patterns, environments, and lived experiences that shape your well-being.
This Meetup is an extension of that philosophy:
> that healing happens when we look deeper, get curious, and work with the whole person—not just isolated problems.

### What We Offer: A Roadmap to Thriving
🌱 Practical tools rooted in psychology and coaching
đź› Strategies for managing energy, emotions, and overstimulation
đź’¬ Deep, meaningful conversations (you will not be asked about your favorite weather pattern)
đź“– Workshops on relationships, boundaries, burnout, and personal growth

### Why Community Matters
Because doing this alone is… unnecessarily hard.
When highly sensitive, curious people come together:
- things start to make sense
- patterns become visible
- and what once felt like “too much” becomes insight
And when that happens?
People don’t just survive.
They build lives that actually work.

### This Is Your Invitation
If you’ve ever thought:
- “Why does everything feel so intense?”
- “Why do I notice things other people don’t?”
- “Why can’t I just… be normal?”
You’re probably not broken.
You’re probably just wired differently.
And you might be exactly who this group is for.
✨ Join us. Your sensitivity isn’t the problem—it’s the starting point. ✨

What is Your Stress Style?
·OnlineOnline# What Is Your Stress Style?
### Warrior, Fortress, Chameleon & Nomad
Monday, October 5 at 12:00 PM Pacific
For a long time, when we talked about burnout, we tended to tell one story:
We burn out because we do too much.
We push. We achieve. We take care of everyone. We surge until eventually there's nothing left in the tank.
And yes—some of us absolutely burn out that way.
But not everyone does.
Some of us become so afraid to move, risk, or expend our limited resources that our world gets smaller. We can begin to atrophy—sometimes metaphorically and sometimes quite literally.
Some of us exhaust ourselves continually reading the room, adapting, accommodating, and contorting ourselves into whatever seems to be needed.
And some of us burn out because we can't seem to stop moving. We pivot, explore, start over, change direction, or chase the next possibility before we've had a chance to put down roots.
Over time, we've come to think about these patterns as four adaptive stress styles:
⚔️ The Warrior — pushes, strives, fights, accomplishes, and keeps going.
🏰 The Fortress — protects, conserves, withdraws, and minimizes risk.
🦎 The Chameleon — adapts, accommodates, reads the environment, and changes accordingly.
🧠The Nomad — moves, explores, pivots, seeks possibility, and resists getting stuck.
There is nothing inherently wrong with any of them.
These are adaptive strategies. Each can be exactly what we need in the right circumstances.
The trouble begins when a useful strategy becomes our default setting—and we lose the flexibility to move out of it.## Why talk about this in midlife?
By 40 and beyond, we've had decades to practice our particular ways of responding to stress. What began as adaptation can gradually become automatic.
And our patterns aren't necessarily consistent across our lives.
You might be a Warrior at work and a Fortress in relationships. You might become a Chameleon around family and a Nomad when it comes to commitments or creativity.
Midlife gives us an opportunity to notice these patterns and ask:
Is this response serving me—or am I simply very practiced at it?
The goal isn't to become a different person or eliminate any of these strategies. It's to develop enough awareness and flexibility that we can use them when they're helpful and move toward greater ease and flow when they're not.## If You Attended Unbound...
Some of this may sound familiar!
During our original 16-week Unbound series, we worked with three patterns: Warrior, Fortress, and Winging-It.
Since then, the framework has evolved—in large part because of what we learned and the feedback we received from participants. We realized that Winging-It was capturing more than one distinct pattern and needed to be pulled apart.
That evolution led us to Chameleon and Nomad.
So if you participated in Unbound, consider this both a refresher and the next iteration of the framework you helped us develop.## What to Expect
This is a free educational session brought to you by Phoenix Rising Family Medicine and shared with the Healthy Sensitive community because we think these patterns may be especially relevant to HSPs.
We'll have some time for conversation and questions, followed by a structured educational portion.
The Meetup itself is completely free.
The educational presentation will be recorded and added to our growing Midlife Foundations online library. The recording and additional library content are available separately through our paid course:

This event is for education and general discussion only. Meetup is not a HIPAA-compliant environment, so please do not share private medical information or other protected health information during the session.
The educational portion will be recorded. Please reserve personal discussion and questions for the non-recorded portion of our time together.### Interested in Phoenix Rising Midlife Health?

Your stress style isn't a flaw. It developed for a reason.
The question in midlife becomes: Can you recognize when you're using it—and can you choose something different when it no longer serves you?9 attendees
