About us

The Heteroqueer Muslim Community is for individuals who identify themselves as heteroqueer and Muslim. The term heteroqueer has multiple meanings, depending on the community it's used in, and it has evolved over time based on various circumstances. The initial heteroqueer movement began in the mid-1990s, describing heterosexual individuals who express non-traditional gender roles or identities. The word queer here means "unusual" (or unconventional) which is the original definition of the word. Heteroqueer serves as both a lifestyle and an intimate identity that describes someone who authentically embodies their own unique element or essence, rather than conforming to what is conventionally expected of them.

In the Muslim Heteroqueer Community, we are a group of people who adhere to Islamic principles while embracing their heteroqueer identity. While there may be differing scholarly opinions on specific issues relating to this matter, we respect each individual's choice as long as it is backed by established scholarly sources and aligns with the definition of heteroqueer (for example, heteroqueer is only meant for heterosexual individuals).

Our primary goal is to provide a welcoming, positive, and relaxed atmosphere for all, encouraging learning about our community or participation in our events. Additionally, we strive to create a safe space where people can connect and live their unique identities.
