What we’re about
This is a group for anyone interested in hiking (most of our members are 50 years old and older). All skills levels are welcome. We started this group to meet other outdoor enthusiasts. Looking forward to exploring the outdoors with everybody.
PLEASE make sure you have a CLEAR PHOTO of yourself on your profile picture. This is REQUIRED so that you can easily be recognized.
Every weekend we offer hikes of varying degrees of difficulty. Hike are free for members (membership only $15) and $3 per hike for non-members. Sometimes we stop at a restaurant for supper after the hike.
"C" hikes are the easiest with minimal elevation and duration (2 1/2 to 3 1/2 hours). "B" hikes are more challenging in terms of elevation & duration (2 1/2 to 4 1/2 hours). "A" hikes are the most challenging (4 to 6 1/2 hours).
Hiking boots or sturdy footwear & a backpack are strongly recommended. Bring liquids and a trail lunch. Children are welcome. It's up to the hike leader if dogs are allowed.
Please give yourself plenty of time, to find us, since we only wait an extra 10 minutes, before starting an event, to be fair to everyone. You are responsible, for your own safety and we cannot be held liable.
The leader normally goes to the "meet" rather than the "carpool" site. People are expected to "self-assemble" and leave the "carpool" site to arrive at the "Meet" site on time.
All questions concerning a particular hike can and should be addressed with the leader for that hike.
Upcoming events (4+)
See all- 1st Day of June: Brooksvale Park Green Trail - Hamden, CTBrooksvale Park, Hamden, CT
5-mile, moderate hike. There are some small hills, but no rock scrambling. Park in the large parking just south of the small one next to the barn. This hike includes seeing farm animals. Dogs are welcome but need to be on their leashes at all times (their rules). Per Brooksvale Park: Group parking is in the large lot, not the small one. I will be wearing a yellow hat, and my cell number is 203-640-4711.
Driving Directions: It's best to click on the map in the Meetup phone app for driving navigation, because some GPS services aren't always accurate. From Route 10 (Whitney Ave): Brooksvale Ave is 1 mile south of the Cheshire town line, and 1 mile north of Wentworth Ice Cream. Follow Brooksvale Ave for a mile until you see the park's main entrance. Do not park in the little entrance near the barn.
Please wear and bring: Light clothing (no jeans), comfortable hiking footwear, backpack, poles if you use them, water and snacks, first aid for injuries and bee stings, personal meds, and tick repellent.
We do ask for a contribution of $3 per hike or $15 per year to cover meetup.com fees and our annual social events, picnics, parties, etc...
