Cat Rocks, Pawling, NY

Details
Location: Trail starts at the Metro North Appalachian Trail Train Stop in Pawling, NY on Route 22 (15.77 miles north of the place where Interstate 684 ends)
Summary:
Cat Rocks is a 6-7 mile trip starting off in Pawling, NY at the metro north Appalachian Trail Stop. Plan on hiking for about 3- 3 1/2 hours depending on the groups speed. This hike offers a wide variety of terrain. Hikers start off meandering along a boardwalk through a swampy area filled with beaver, song birds and lots of cattails. After the boardwalk section, hikers head into the forest. Emerging from the forest, the path takes hikers through open fields for this next section. You will know you hit the end of the fields when you come upon an amazing majestic old oak tree (some believe it is the oldest on the AT) and across the road the hike continues up with a steady climb to Cat rocks overlook. A great spot to take in the view, relax and grab a snack before heading back down the same way.
Parking:
There is a small parking lot at the metro north Appalachian trail stop. The station is on the left if you are traveling north on Route 22, and is about a 1/4 mile north of Hurds Corners Road. It's tricky to see as it's just a little dirt/grass driveway and the small wooden station is hard to spot from the road. If the tiny space for parking is filled or too muddy you can park just up the road in one of the paved rest stops (on both sides of Route 22) only few 100 feet north of the train stop.
