Pawling Nature Reserve - Appalachian Trail and Quaker Lake 🍁 + Lunch after
Details
Join us for a Fall Foliage Hike at the Pawling Nature Reserve! 🍂
The Pawling Nature Reserve, located in the northern section of the Town of Pawling, NY, spans 1,060 acres along the top of Hammersby Ridge near Quaker Lake. Managed by The Nature Conservancy, it’s a stunning spot to experience autumn colors.
This hike will be approximately 6.5 miles with about 1,100 feet of elevation gain. It’s rated Moderate B+ difficulty, primarily due to a continuous 1.5-mile uphill climb. This hike is not recommended for beginners.
We’ll move at a conversational pace of 2.5 mph, with plenty of breaks for water, snacks, and catching our breath.
👉 Along the Appalachian Trail section, we’ll cross a few farm fences using short 5–6 foot ladders (see photo). These are fun and easy, and we’ll take our time to make sure everyone is comfortable.
The trail features a variety of terrain, including Appalachian Trail paths, meadows, boardwalks, and wooded trails, with beautiful views of Quaker Lake.
What to bring:
- Plenty of water and snacks
- Waterproof boots and clothing
- Hiking poles (recommended)
- Warm layers (no cotton—better for preventing hypothermia)
- A positive, adventurous spirit!
After the hike, we’ll have an optional group lunch at a nearby restaurant.
We kindly ask for a small contribution of $3 per hike or $15 per year to help cover our Meetup fees.
