West Rock Ridge - Regicides Trail, 7-1/2 miles, approx. 730' in elevation gain.
Details
West Rock Ridge State Park is located in New Haven, Hamden, and Woodbridge, Connecticut. The park includes a 7-mile (11 km) Regicides Trail, part of the Connecticut Forest and Park Association's Blue Trail system. There’re also lakes, a cave, and a colonial era historic site.
This hike will include a rugged cliff-walk along a ridgeline with spectacular views of multiple lakes and busy highways below. At the southern end, there’s an overlook with incredible views of New Haven and Long Island Sound on a clear day. The trail is mostly easy going but there is a two (+) mile stretch, right in the middle that includes a lot of rock-hopping, ankle-breaker rocks that tend to slow you down. The rest of the trail is a really enjoyable hike with plenty of shade.
Parking will be at the Lake Wintergreen Boat Launch parking lot (right off Main St. Hamden). There are only 27 spots in the lot, so I'm limiting it to 22 because it is a pretty popular spot. So, if you can carpool, please do so.
Please arrive ten to fifteen minutes early because we plan to start promptly at the time listed. If you RSVP "YES" and can't make it, PLEASE change your RSVP so that the next person on the waitlist can attend.
Hike leader: Patrick Cunningham (203) 837-0912.
