HUIA TO WHATIPU RETURN 20 km


Details
We will walk from Karamatura carpark, to Whatipu, and back the same way. It's a long 20km hike due to all the ascent and descent, and may take 8-9 hours (or less, depending on the level of fitness of attendees) starting at 8:30 am. This is suitable only for people who are fit enough and hike often or are physically active often. Please bring a headlight with spare batteries in case they're needed.
PLAN:
We will walk up the Karamatura track, and then up Donald McLean track, to Donald McLean peak, then onto Puriri Ridge track, Omanawanui peak,
and down the stairs to Whatipu beach. After lunch we will turn round, go back up the stairs, and all the way back to Karamatura carpark the same way.

GEAR:
Hiking poles are helpful to go up and down stairs.
Prepare for all weather conditions, rain, sun, and exposure to wind when we're not sheltered by the trees.
GETTING THERE:
You are welcome to use the comments section below, to ask for a lift, or offer a lift. Passengers give $20 to drivers for fuel.
