Joelma, All Saints Day, Krakatoa, Kanto Plain, Rupert's Hotel, Noronic, Flight 621, Flight 401, Tangshan, Frank Slide, Hindenburg, Hazel, Iroquois, Lisbon, The Empress, the list goes on and on. Horrific events in world history, events forgotten and buried, until now!

Scholars believe that you can understand everything you want about society if you study disasters. In order to really understand, one has to get dirty, historically speaking.

Disasters are historical windows, windows on a different world, no matter how ghastly that world is. Disasters tend to shake things up, literally and figuratively, and get us thinking.

How citizens are treated during and after a major disaster, that's the story, and I'm going to tell you a few that you won't soon forget.

This walk is a history lesson like no other, guaranteed. We get a chance to open up history on several levels, and explore its most darkest, with a unique Toronto perspective. And as we learn about Toronto events we count down some of the greatest worldwide disasters and how they impacted society.

At the end of the walk we spend a little time pondering the victims of the Rupert's Hotel Fire which occurred on December 23, 1989 at the corner of Parliament Street and Queen Street East. The worst fire tragedy in Toronto in a generation.

This tour begins on the steps of old City Hall at the northeast corner of Queen Street West and Bay Street, and ends at the site of the Rupert's Hotel at the corner of Parliament Street and Queen Street East.

This tour is designed for all walkers and weather conditions. Hope to see you soon.

This tour has a ticket price of $10.00 per person!
