Weston was settled in the 1790s, when a saw mill was built in Etobicoke Township along the west side of the Humber River.
Weston developed along both sides of the river until a serious flood in 1850 destroyed the west bank settlement now the site of the Weston Golf and Country Club
Main Street, now Weston Road, and the 1856 arrival of the Grand Trunk Railway brought growth on the east side, and the modern community emerged.
The first sign of modernity was the opening of the first post office in 1842. The first library in 1858, known as the Mechanic's Institute opened to the public. In 1865, the Trinity College School opened, founded by William Arthur Johnson.
And then the disaster of October 1954 and Hurricane Hazel which brought death and destruction to the community and all of Toronto for that matter, but Weston took the hit directly! This tour combines the history of Weston and the history of the hurricane in 1954!
This walking tour is for all levels and walkers. The tour begins and ends at the Toronto Public Library Weston Branch at 2 King Street and Weston Road near the Humber River!
This tour has a ticket price of $15.00 per person.
