Downsview is a modern Toronto park in every sense of the word.

But the history of Downsview, like other Toronto areas and districts, is hidden from view, and just about forgotten. But things have changed for the better. And now an oasis in the heart of the city awaits! And plenty of history to uncover!

Downsview Park is under federal jurisdiction, and the area belongs to a land trust called the Canada Lands Company. So it is safe from massive redevelopment!

And as one walks through the quiet oasis, we can be thankful for that protection. It's a gem in the heart of old North York, and one of the largest urban parks in Ontario! The trails tell the story. So let's explore!

Over the years, Aviation, Military, and major industrial and business projects played starring roles in the history of Toronto and Canada, and Downsview was at the centre of it all.

We tend to forget that Downsview even existed, it was talked about in the 1970s and developed in the 1980s, and threatened in the 1990s, but if you asked most people about the park itself, most wouldn't have a clue as to the real history of the area and what became of the old industrial land. It was just a name of a subway station! And an airport at one time!

This walking tour explores the rich history of Downsview. With its amazing walking trails, lakes and forests all within the old industrial area that has some special names attached from Toronto history, names like De Havilland Aircraft, RCAF, Royal Canadian Navy, just to name a few!

The price of this tour is $15.00 per person!

This extensive walking tour begins at the southeast corner of Keele Street and Sheppard Avenue West adjacent to the entrance to Downsview Park itself. This is a loop tour and returns to the start location after the walk!

Hope to see you there!
