A comprehensive introductory course to applied sewing methods and skills leading to full basic knowledge to construct a completed basic garment.

The course covers how construction plays part in taking a design concept to 3-d form, the relationship and importance of choosing construction methods and materials and follows operating machinery and use of tools safely in the sewing lab

Orientation on Textiles and Surface Design techniques such as weaving and stitch embellishments are applied to produce patchwork and textures for our Sample Book and incorporated to complete the design and production of a lined, zipper pouch bag with pockets, a lined string back back with pockets, and a functional tote bag.

20 HRS or as needed to complete syllabus

This course will be instructed by Carla Soledad Rivera who has over 20 years or teaching Art and Design in schools classrooms and professional institutes to a variety of age groups and audiences. She brings a curriculum catered to the curious DIY learner looking to explore and learn hands on. Full bio here:
