Visit to the “Hanging Red Bridges” Hongqiao Park, Shenzhen

Details

Hongqiao Park, also known as Red Bridge Park, in the Guangming district of Shenzhen is named for the 4-kilometer red bridge, which stretches across the park enabling wide vistas across the park and the surrounding area.. Although termed “Hanging” they are fixed in place so do not swing in the wind! The park has become a popular place to visit,
so we delayed our visit until after the Chinese New Year. The park, described as “the most beautiful red ribbon,” won the Best Landscape Design Award at the 2020 World Architecture Festival (2020 WAFChina).

The park, located between Guangqiao Road and Dadingling Greenway, covers an area of about 402 hectares and consists of three areas connected by a 4-kilometer-long red bridge: the entrance area, the Bihu Lake area and the forest area stretching from west
to east. The bridge starts from Guangming New Town Park in the west, passes the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong High-speed Railway and Ganzhou-Shenzhen High-Speed Railway, and ends at the Dadingling Greenway in the east – but we will travel in the opposite direction as this makes the journey to the park easier!

The forest area does include several species of trees and flowering plants and the red bridge makes a great background for your photos!

As on our last trip to Shenzhen, you do need a valid China visa or a home visit card.
The MTR (free for the over 60s) journey is a bit longer and we will use shared taxis to get to the entrance gate. While walking the bridge we will stop for a packed lunch and the meet at the end to walk the short distance to the MTR. Those wishing to can enjoy dinner before travelling home.

What to bring: Passport or Home return car; HKID card, Octopus card, RMB (about 15 for the taxi, 10 for MTR if you are under 60, and 100 if you will stay for dinner), umbrella/rain jacket (just in case); insect repellent; packed lunch; water/sports drink.
