Our first hike after the everlasting, sweltering summer is the North West New Territories walk along the Fu Tei Trail.
This is one of the more recently designated Country Trails in Hong Kong – and one that the HKNHS was lucky enough to escape to during 2021. We will travel by bus to Fu Tei Road, then walk up the road to the BBQ site where the trail commences.
It is a well-defined dirt trail which affords lovely views of the gorge. For much of the walk, the sound of the stream in the valley can be heard. There are some steps at the beginning of the trail, but are not difficult. The path then descends to the valley, where we will stop at the rock pools for lunch. At the end of the trail we will reach the service reservoir and up to the road. Those wishing to visit the three nearby temples, will descend to the dam before ascending to the road and walk across and on a short path through the farming allotments. We will return by bus and should arrive back by 3:30pm.
