Human Values Meetup - online

Details

Our next Meetup, on the fourth Sunday of the month, will be online. We're still considering the possibility of a hybrid meeting, with some people in person and some online.

The topic for Sunday June 22, will be: "How Stoic philosophy can change your life!" Why do many people feel powerless in the world, experiencing anxiety and fear in a world that has gone insane? What about the future - are we hopelessly lost in the turmoil of our times, and can we do anything about it? In a book by Brigid Delaney, Reasons Not to Worry, she explains the views of the ancient Roman Stoic philosophers: Seneca, Epictetus, and Emperor Marcus Aurelius. We will look at the 5 principles of Stoicism. Stuart Hirsch will introduce the topic, followed by open discussion.

.
You can participate either by webcam or telephone. The link will be sent that morning to anyone who has RSVPd. We'll also check for RSVPs by 11:30 am that day.

We recommend that you RSVP from the Events page:
https://www.meetup.com/The-Human-Values-Network-HVN/events/

If you don't see the link in your inbox by 11:30 that day, send a note directly to the organizer:

.

We welcome a diversity of views, for open-minded discussion, where we can learn from each other.

We meet the 4th Sunday of each month, 12:30-2:00, and are currently meeting online. At about 12:45, the speaker that day introduces the topic (usually a 20 minute introduction), followed by open discussion.

We were meeting in a restaurant before the covid situation. When we met there, our format was: lunch and socializing, the first hour; then a presentation, followed by open discussions. The topics are on various subjects related to human values, such as: aspects of society; the arts; social science; current events; nature and evolution; history; science and technology; ethics; philosophy, etc.
