When most of us consider German wine, we think of nuns (blue) or towers (black), and that all German wine is sweet and white, made from Riesling.

This is not the case!

The Germans keep almost all their best wines for themselves. The President, Vice-President and Secretary of the IWSS were in South West Germany, last year, competing in the blind tasting wine contest at the Wine Festival in the town of Lauffen-am-Neckar - and winning! However, the translator was essential to that success, and Lisa-Marie Blatt was that translator.

Lisa was Wine Princess for the State of Württemberg in 2022-3. She comes from a vine-growing and wine-making family. She will share some of her own family wines alongside some from Garth Wines, the specialist importer of German wines, run by the IWSS' President.

This part of Germany's production includes a significant proportion of red wines and rosés, as well as whites (including Riesling) and Sekt (traditional method sparkling) - and a great number of these wines are dry.

Come along and experience the wines of Württemberg, and have your perceptions of German wine swept away. This will tantalise your taste-buds, and blow away the erroneous belief that "German wine = sweet Riesling"!
