Rioja is often thought to be always 'just' Rioja. This vineyard region, which more or less matches the administrative boundaries of the Province and the Autonomous Community of La Rioja, also includes some vineyards in Navarra and the Basque Country!

Additionally, are you aware that Rioja wines are available as rosé and white wines, as well as the well-known red?

The sub-divisions of Rioja have recently been re-assessed - and re-named in one case. We shall learn more of this, on the night, when our very own Vice-President, David Miller, the proprietor of Angel Fine Wines, will lead us through an exploration of the variations that can be found within the world of Rioja.

The dominant grape that is used in red Rioja is Tempranillo, as most of us know. However, as in Bordeaux, there are other grape varieties permitted to be grown, here, and used in the final wine product - either as single varietals or as blends. Again, find out more on the night!

This will be an intriguing evening, seeing the variation that is included within the designation of 'Rioja' - and how, it is not just the ageing process that differentiates the wines of this famous region.

Come along for an evening of revelations. You will be very welcome!
