The Keith Laumer book club: A Trace of Memory

Details
No good research group is complete without a book club, and we are resuming our own.
In "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court" — not the first, but arguably the genre-defining "our man in the past" novel — the American author Mark Twain explores the clash between the modern era technological mentality and old-era world of fairies, knights and dragons immortalized by Sir Thomas Malory's "Death or Arthur". "A Trace of Memory", one of the first Keith Laumer's novels, explores in the opposite direction: the entire world of King Arthur and the Round Table is revealed in it as a superior civilization based on advanced technology. An adventure novel by itself, "A Trace of Memory" nevertheless touches one of the core common problems of the Medieval philosophy and the space opera genre: "What is, essentially, the human mind?"
